So Ive narrowed it down to two lenses. I know which one I want, its really just what I can afford thats the real catch.
The first lens is the Nikon 16-85. Great midrange zoom. Its sharp, affordable, awesome vibration reduction, the only downside is that its f3.5 - 5.6. Its a relatively slow lens, especially at the 85mm side.
The second lens is the Nikon 24-70. Amazing lens. Very sharp, especially edge to edge on a crop sensor (I own the D300s so Im shooting with a DX sensor), nice midrange zoom although its quite a bit more money than the 16-85 and is lacking the wide angle. The big thing is that its f2.8 the entire way through. Awesome lens!
So thats my conundrum. I will see how my bank account looks in a couple weeks and possibly give another update.

So Ive been doing some research about the next couple lenses I am thinking of buying.
Right now Im hunting for a decent mid range zoom and wide angle. The two lenses Im debating between for my mid range is:
- Tokina 16-50 F2.8
- Nikon 16-85 F3.5-5.6 VRII
Ive been talking to some people at work (working at a photography store) and they say both lenses are sharp, so now it comes down to a) More zoom and VR or b) Less zoom but more speed. So thats my choices for now for mid range.
I think I have my wide angle picked out tentatively now. Im leaning towards buying the:
- Tokina 11-16 F2.8
Supposedly a very sharp lense and the F2.8 would be nice as well.
The nice thing about this lense is that it stops where my mid range zoom would begin, with either choice above.
Well I will let you know what I end up buying, wont be until end of February most likely.
