Random Photo Friday #1 - "Walking Tall"

"Walking Tall"
I have always wanted to do a weekly blog series that had a catchy, yet regrettably corny, title that showed different works of mine anywhere from a shot I took back when I used 35mm film or even an iPhone snapshot and also to include some anecdote, insight, or thoughts Ive been having.

So here it goes, the first installment of "Random Photo Friday" (I told you, corny right?).

The image you see to the left, which I titled "Walking Tall", is one of my favorite shots Ive ever taken. Not because of the technical aspects of the shot, but because of the subject and the emotion this photo evokes in me. For me it symbolizes power, wisdom, strength, leadership, and adventure. Yet every time I look at the image I feel something a little different each time.

This photograph is of my dad. I took this photo back when I was shooting 35mm film (I didn't shoot a lot, maybe 10 rolls before going digital) and I was just getting into photography. I think this shot is when I realized that photography was more than just a picture, its telling a story, recreating the feeling and emotion in that moment you took the photo. For me this shot will always remind me what an amazing father I have and how lucky I am to have him as a roll model and as a best friend. He is such a big part of who I am today.

One of the best pieces of advice my dad ever gave me and sticks with me to this day, and I hope you people can use this when you get in tough times - "Don't worry about the things you can't change, and do something about the things you can".
